SafePass Theft Protection Bank of America provides an extra degree of security for Bank of America customers using Online Banking. SafePass uses your cell phone or a special pocket card to verify your identity before completing certain online transactions. SafePass complements Bank of America’s SiteKey technology to prevent unauthorized access to your bank accounts through Online Banking.
Enable SafePass
Before you can start using SafePass, you need to activate the service through the Bank of America Online Banking interface. Select “Add SafePass Security to My Account” on the customer service tab. Provide your cell phone number or order a SafePass card. Once you’ve enabled SafePass, you won’t be able to perform some online transactions without access to your SafePass card or mobile phone.
SafePass Authorization
Each time you make a transaction that requires SafePass notification through the Bank of America Online Banking interface, a unique six-digit code will be generated and sent to you as a text message to the cell phone number you have provided. provided. A dialog box will pop up on the Online Banking page asking for the six-digit code. Once the code has been entered correctly, you can continue your operation. If you have a SafePass card instead of a mobile phone, simply press a button on the SafePass card to generate a new SafePass code and enter it in the “Card” section of the pop-up window.
Covered Transactions
By default, SafePass authorization is required any time you attempt to add or change information about bill pay recipients. A SafePass authorization is also required each time you make a transfer greater than your account’s total transfer limit. Optionally, you can use SafePass to sign in to Online Banking instead of answering the identity verification questions on the SiteKey page.
Compatible Devices
Bank of America will send you the six-digit SafePass keys in the form of SMS messages. Any mobile phone that supports SMS messaging works with SafePass. You can also purchase a Bank of America SafePass card to use instead of a mobile phone. Bank of America charges a one-time fee for a SafePass card, which at press time was $19.99.
